I had a dream about AoE 2 the other night. It was exactly as if I was playing it. Sadly, I remember my army was completely crushed and I lost the game. Still, it's given me an urge to play it again, while awake.

The scale dissonance is what killed AoE for me. Seeing a dude that's half the height of a castle was not something my brain would allow me to accept. It's okay with Civilization because those units are obviously symbolic, but I had been spoiled by Stronghold before playing AoE so I passed it up lol.

If I could ever get over its few weird qualities, I'd probably like it. I played the very similar Rise of Nations and was able to enjoy it.

The game where I first heard about Joan De' Arc (*with a french accent mind you), Saladin and Gengis Khan. Good times

For a while, I was addicted to AOE3, especially online multiplayer on GameRanger. I loved all the different civilizations and strategies. But then when I got OS X Mavericks, GameRanger broke, which was actually a blessing in disguise in terms of making me focus more on school/work.

Crushing the enemy is what I do.

AOE2 is probably my most favourite game of all time. Been playing it for over a decade, I believe.

The Spanish were my favourite for a long time. Using Trebuchets to level enemy Castles to the ground while providing cover with my Paladins (who would also be used, at the end, to pick off remaining enemy Builders) was my thing.
Now I'm sort of inbetween nations. I liked the Celts for a short while (Onagers and Woad Raiders FTW) and have been dabbling with the tradional British for nostalgic purposes but am still yet to settle... Could anyone reccommend me a new nation? What do you guys use?
