I'm using an Android tablet to access EC. You know how in settings you can see a graph of how much data is being used over the internet for all your apps? I'm afraid if my parents go on my device for whatever reason and see that chrome has been using a very large portion of the data (about 90%) just from accessing EC as frequently as I do, and that they will think/assume I'm watching tons of porn, which I'm not. Not any at all actually.

So my question is, is there any way to disable tracking of the data usage? I really don't want my parents to think I'm using it for inappropriate stuff and have my tablet confiscated, which is a possibility. As far as they know, I'm not using the internet browser at all, since they told me I'm not allowed to unless they are around.

    Any help appreciated!

If you have root access you can go to the /data/system/netstats/ folder and delete the files there, which will clear all the tracking.

If you haven't rooted your tablet then I'm pretty sure you can't clear it, sorry.

Is rooting like jail breaking on an iPod? I'll try to see if I can get into that folder anyways. Thanks Ridiculous

Yeah it is similar - you should be able to find a relatively simple tutorial on how to do it for your tablet if you just search Google for the model + "root".

Thanks! Idk if I will be able to find anything though because my tablet seems pretty obscure. I couldn't find much on internet searches when I had questions after first buying it. I'll try though.

I haven't tested it personally, however there seems to be a thread about on xda (android developer and "hacker" forum - probably the main source of info when it come to android):
    [APP][ROOT ALL DEVICES]ROOTMaster | Android | XDA Forums
The link they have seems to be down, but no one seems to be complaining about any problem with the app itself.

Yeah like Frenchkid98 said try some of the jailbreak similar processes. If that doesn't work then try to go in the settings and turn of whatever you have that senses your data. Or you can try to find free wifi and use the incognito tab on chrome. I use the incognito tab on my home network. I dunno just a thought. I know most android devices weird. Try and ask for an iPad or iPod they usually don't have data tracking stuff. And if they ask why just say that they are less likely to get viruses.

I used to have an iPod but I gave it to my sister. I like my tablet better for games. I do use incognito, but it still tracks my data. I've been using my tablet to look up things for school so I'm less concerned about the whole ordeal now that I have that excuse. Not sure why I didn't think of it in the first place.

It still tracks how much each app uses on wifi.

why don't you download another browser like Firefox or Dolphin and remove it once a week or so therefore it will also delete your data usage. Use EC only on that browser.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. So much is web based in today's world that noone would really think twice about Chrome (a web browser) using the bulk of the bandwith on a device. Of course, if you're in the US, Australia, or New Zealand, you could just use Pandora a lot, because streaming music will use a ton more bandwith than a handful of primarily text web pages (this site)

I actually did that for a while! Continuously deleting a browser isn't a bad idea, but I'm honestly not too worried about it anymore. I was just having a little paranoid worry attack.
