    Wales... unfortunately
I've narrowed my search for a gpu into two of these cards but I'm not sure which one I want. From what I've read in various reviews the 290x produces better framerates at higher resolutions but I'm still not sure which card to get...

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Wish I could help, mine is a GeForce GT 635. I love it, but it's the first GPU I've ever had. It kicks Star Trek Online like I like it.

I just don't know enough about the Radeon.

My video device is shown on the right. It depends on what your budget is, obviously, but the prices they are showing are essentially 30 USD difference. This difference is more than justified by the PassMark score.

I would recommend going with the GTX 970 even though it's more expensive, although both are clearly high end cards.

Gtx offers nothing new from the 800 only being more power efficient. I'd still go with the gtx, but if you're on a budget the r9. I've used both.

By the way gt 635m is garbage dude.

It's what I could afford at the time. Eventually I can upgrade.

You're not able to upgrade laptops other than the ram.

It's a desktop. It's what Amazon had, back in January. A Dell. I bought cos the old desktop died, and I wanted to finally play Star Trek Online.

Where are you getting that information? According to my sources, AMD cards support up to OpenGL 4.4.

The one and only thing, AMD have become good in... graphics cards. That is to say, if you want something for gaming. They are both cheaper and perform better than NVIDIA.

It is because of the way the graphics processors handle the games, simply put, NVIDIA are more... erhm... how should i put it... "program friendly", while AMD is more "entertainment" oriented.

Taking into account a similar (negligible difference) performance, one should look at the price tag.

NVIDIA do have better fleshed out software but, unless you're going to "tweak" that boy up, you aren't going to be spending that much time with it. Also (and don't quote me on this), AMD is easier to clock.

Yeah with add-ons aka downloads, while Nvidia just has it straight off the bat.

By addons do you mean drivers? Admittedly, I've been an nVidia OpenGL developer girl all my life, but I find it very, very unlikely that AMD's products don't ship with OpenGL support. How do you think GNU/Linux users are running with AMDs?

    How is Catalyst an addon?
