People I need: Artist Another Programmer Idea Person Anything else potentially useful... My idea was a topdown game (harvest moon style) that was also a mix of monster hunter. You would start out as just a small house in a distant place who, after your father's death, you continue his business as a fur trader in a world full of distinct creatures. As you hunt these creatures and collect different materials from them, you can use these to build up your personal items or upgrade the surrounding area and house, evolving the area from just a single house into a town based on how much you put into it and how many people stay as they visit your area in search of your materials. As monster hunting is seen as dangerous, you're the only trader for a long ways. The game would include: 1. craft-able environment through terraforming 2. craft-able weapons , armors, with their own tech trees 3. craft-able buildings 4. distinct creatures 5. Big monsters being boss fights etc. Thinking about it, i guess its kind of dwarf fortressy too.
You only let the thread go five hours. And besides, you described a combination of games and features people already know about. Unless your combo is a home run that needs to happen (Assassin's Creed in Japan or Pokemon console RPG), people generally like to see ingenuity. If you need me for anything, I'll contribute 2d art or the odd idea or two. But I don't know squat about programming and my area of practice is usually limited to 3d assets. :/
If you're talking to me, my stuff was made in 3DS Max and Maya. But my licenses are up on both of those At least I still have Photoshop lol.
I'm sure I can give ideas, but you might not like them. My ideas: (Just putting out random ideas) * Ability to set up other towns * Town will have demands, if not fulfilled they will rebel, and maybe even form their own enemy towns *Become King/Queen after a certain population and a certain amount of towns, and establish your own style of government whether it is a monarchy, democracy, or communism *random undead graveyards to raid *random destroyed towns to explore (possibly inhabited by undead or raiders.) *ability to customize interiors of houses and shops your character owns. *ability to place objects and rotate them in interiors your character owns *ability to tax towns *ability to hire workers, set wages *multiplayer, maybe even player town vs player town *ability to create alliances and declare war or make peace, maybe even timed cease-fires or peace treaties *ability to form armies and send them to war ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Though to be honest, I think you would need to find another forum to get help. This forum doesn't allow off-site contact info.
I'm actually more curious to what you will be doing, onelonelygirl. =) And what language should the game be programmed in? What platform should it be for? What is the intended age group? I feel there's some information missing if you are willing to attract people to collaborate with you.
I had said nevermind because based on my last few posts, I figured I was in the wrong forum o something xD but... I'd say the intended age group is teen up. I've already started this project in c# XNA from scratch and have a working menu. The main problem for me while I code is that I tend to get lost in my own code, like my main direction, no matter how many comments and regions I use. Im not just some kid saying "let's make a game" I'm actually in love with game building and I'm doing this if I get a team or not. I go to school for computer hardware and networking, so it's also kind of a career choice xD I don't mind teaching people who are completely willing to learn and are committed. I just didn't think anyone on these forums besides 2 people were really into this kind of thing. ---------- Post added 13th Oct 2014 at 03:46 AM ---------- The intended platform for now is just windows untill I practice with other systems. ---------- Post added 13th Oct 2014 at 03:47 AM ---------- Also, thank you Ashley
FYI, your idea sounds very much like A Dark Room. I suggest you check it out so you can, you know, go in a unique direction. http://adarkroom.doublespeakgames.com
That sounds pretty awesome I wish I knew more about programming lol. If there happens to be any minor electrical work or physical hacking done id give advice but actual programming games yea no... Lol but cool idea
I don't really see how it's alike... But I haven't played it. I guess this really isn't the forum for this kind of thing.
As a retired game dev, I wish you best of luck with this project. I guess I could give you a hand if you need anything, specially on the ideas' front.
Well, in a dark room, you start out alone. You gather supplies and you are trying to build a village and gather people to gather more supplies to build a larger village, and also so you can explore the area. You can battle variois creatures. I can understand not seeing the similarity since A Dark Room has nothing but text in it and also you need to play it forna while before you can really do anything.
Well, i had something in mind more along the lines of the way monster hunter worked, not really a survival kind of thing. its hard to explain if you never have seen monster hunter
