I'm planning on building myself a Gaming rig and I've settled on a

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel Motherboard
    Intel Core i5 4460 3.2Ghz 6MB Cache SKT 1150 Processor

But I'm not sure what GPU to use with these, for single monitor 1080p hardcore gaming?
Should I go for two cards or just one?
Cost should also be a factor I can't get those real expensive ones even if I wished I could xD
Also would a 650w Power supply be able to support it?

Sli can be a problem for some games. Seeing as you're only going up to 1080p sli would really be overkill anyway.
You need to give us a budget to really be able to provide suitable options.

mm, I was hoping for nothing more expensive than around $270, which is R3000 in my own currency.

I was thinking of getting a
    Gigabyte R9 270x Overclocked Graphics Card - 2GB

But I wasn't sure if that was overkill or underkill(Err is that a word?)

When buying a GPU, always consider how it will be cooled. ASUS and their DirectCU technology is one of the best, right now, in terms of keeping the card silent and cooled.

Obviously there are various versions of this by other manufacturers, but the concept is the same. Just focus on getting one with a beefy heatsink and no more than two fans.

Consider going for an older model graphics card. Everything with at least 2GB memory @256bit would do for now, but would be better if you invested in something with 512bit.

SLI/Crossfire is hugely inefficient in cost to performance ratio, especially now that dual GPU cards are becoming so common.

Also, they are a pain in the ass to set up properly and open a whole world of potential troubles. Plus your PSU won't be enough, especially if it's not gold standard.

Look at some of the R9 290 variants by XFX, MSI, Gigabyte, Sapphire. As those are somewhat cheaper. Also, NVIDIA, in my mind, has no future in gaming, just saying.

NVIDIA has no future in gaming? Ha! I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my life!
