Dead Island - Reveal Trailer I posted this on the "Games that made you cry" thread and I'm posting it again here because, well, for one this is the thread where it actually belongs lol. In all seriousness, no other videogame trailer that I've seen has ever come close to move an audience the way this trailer did (and still does!) nor in delivering the emotional depth displayed here with half as much success (tried as they have). I suspect that a big part of why Dead Island is still a thing (at all) despite the mediocre-to-barely-passable quality of the games is largely because of people holding on to the pipe-dream that the series will eventually start to at least scratch the surface of the themes explored in this trailer (newsflash: it's not). To have the entire relevance of a whole franchise hang on a single trailer that came out years ago is something I can't say of any other trailer in the industry. It's a little sad that, given the meager value of the games (if any), it turned out to be more of a cinematic feat than anything; Oh well, at least is a superb short on it's own and a gorgeous reminder of everything Dead Island could have been (this is the case for A LOT of trailers in the gaming industry, more worried about building hype than living up to it). [YOUTUBE]7wrvRqs8Kvo[/YOUTUBE] [MGSV] The Phantom Pain - World Premiere This trailer is special not only because the game itself is beautiful and the editing is top-notch, but above all else the ingenuity with which Kojima utilized deceit to carefully bait his core audience and pick the gaming community's collective interest was in-sa-ne. Being an MGS fan has never been as fun (outside the games) as it was on the days (and even weeks) immediately after that reveal. It was beautiful to behold how the MGS fandom came together like a maelstrom in a matter of hours following the trailer's airing to pick apart all the clues and hints in it without so much as a faint idea of what exactly they were looking for, while everyone outside of it just gawked in awe at the unraveling of a mystery they hadn't even realized was there to begin with. You can still see the effects of this covert reveal on the fandom in the absurd paranoia surrounding every bit of news from this game ever since it was confirmed that the conspiracy was real (hahaha somewhere right now Kojima is laughing maniacally). It just succeeded with flying colors in everything a trailer can ever hope to achieve. Am I really still gushing about it? Just watch the trailer. It may not be as special to watch it now, removed from the circumstances that made it spread like wildfire when originally released, but it's still a pretty neat trailer on all accounts.
