So I have my windows 8 laptop connected to my monitor but the screen being open is kinda annoying me. Is there anyway to have it close but not go to sleep?

I have tried to do this myself as well.

Have you looked at the graphic and display settings under control panel?

Usually there is a menu to choose what action the notebook makes when closing the lid.
