My mothers computer is saying that it is not running a genuine version of windows. She has had the computer for just about a year now, and has never had this problem before. We bought it off of walmart, and I ran the activation info. She has windows 7.

The error code that she is getting is this: 0x8004fe21

Can anybody help me fix this.. she cannot talk, so this is one of her few ways of communication and I feel bad that I don't even know where to begin with this.

I am assuming problem started after an update.

Do you have any cd/dvd comes with the PC?

You can also try restoring to an earlier check point of computer but that usually screws things up.

So if you have that mentioned cd, secure needed data then format the computer. If you don't have it buy a new Windows 8... in here they don't sell Win7 seperately so your only chance to get a sole Windows copy is with Win8.

That was what I would do. Not much techy guy but been using windows for years.

If it's supplied by walmart you should go back to them.

If you have a sticker with an activation code on it (either on a dvd disc or the computer itself) you should call Microsoft.

Yeah, this did start after an update. I'm not sure where any of the original information for the computer is, since my dad went on a cleaning spree. I did find something about drivers, but I'm not sure how to resolve that issue, if that is the issue. I think that I'm probably going to have to call Windows when I have some time to do so.

If you bought this computer new at Walmart, sounds like another faulty update. Microsoft should be able to resolve it. Don't be surprised if they try getting you to pay again, though. There should be a COA on the side of the machine (a small sticker with a hologram, a code, and usually a barcode). They likely will want some info from taht

Just KMS the thing, not worth going through all the legalities for a deprecated operating system.

The thing is that my mom would never be able to operate Windows 8.. She can barely use my MacBook, and her phone only works because I spent forever teaching her to use it..

I've tried to update the drivers in that link, but I cannot get the program to work correctly to install them, so I'll have to fiddle with that some more.

Hey, did you try to restore your computer to an earlier point in time to see if this helps?

    Ok...
    you might try here:
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver Windows 7 (32-bit), Vista (32-bit), XP - ThinkPad - Lenovo Support (US)
    or here:
    Intel Customer Support

If that does not work out, you might go to the device manager
How Do I Open Device Manager in Windows 7?
and look for the exact naming of the device, and look for drivers.

Or you write down here the exact type of the notebook...

As an aside, a software which makes images of the computer on a second disk is recommended...
For example Backup & Recovery Free Edition - Overview
If used regularly, a backup is an easy task...
