Depends are you content with just playing the older games, which will now be getting cheaper, and I am assuming that the PSNetwork will be going offline for PS3 within a few years. I am honestly more of a Xbox fan, but if I were you I'd probably go with the PS4 if you are aiming to play with friends and they are upgrading.

PS3 is not a good investment. It's in decline. Soon they'll stop selling games for it.

I would go for a PS4, just be aware you do have to pay a subscription fee to play online & with friends now.

I still use PS3, and nothing that came out in 2014 gave me any real desire to go out and buy a PS4. At this point buying a PS3 is a bad idea though unless there are some games from that generation you are really honestly dying to own. The PS4 has yet to pick up but, 2015 is likely to be the year that changes, so it basically comes down to which you value more, the future or the past.

Personally, I just bought a PS3 this month because I had never owned one before and I can grab literally dozens of games I want to play for $20 or less.
    It's a fantastic deal.

If you have already played most of the games you want on the PS3, buy the PS4.
If you still have PS3 games you want to buy or finish you know what to do!

UPDATE: i ended up getting a ps3 mainly because my parents just bought a 3d tv and ps4 doesn't support it. Also because i'm a trophy whore and i have some games that i haven't platinum'd yet :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I personally liked the PS3 when I had it. However, I had to sell mine to pay off my dad for some money I borrowed. (I forget what for, now. XD)

But if the times are changing in the video game industry, I say get with the times!

Now is actually the time to upgrade. You'll see 3rd party support start to drop for both the previous generation consoles now.

Build a pc, or get a powerful laptop. Plug it into your tv and get a 360 controller.

I'm still happy with my PS3 and haven't felt the need to upgrade yet. Games are really cheap and there are people I can swap with who have the same console.

Netflix, DVD and Blu-ray player also. Can't complain!

The PS4 would be the logical choice, when considering the future. Unless it is second hand, I advise against buying a PS3 at this time.

Better idea, if you have a ps3 now don't upgrade it till late 2015 or 2016 or at least wait for kingdom hearts 3 and persona 5, final fantasy 15, withcer 3 as it takes 2-3 years after a console comes out to have a decent selection of games, but if you have neither a ps3 or ps4 at the moment get a ps4.
