    Hey!

I'm currently using Avira Free on my computer, but i have some extra money right now and i'm thinking about getting another antivirus. I'm currently tempted to get Kaspersky or BitDefender (Internet Security version, or something like that).

Which one is the best? Or there is another that is better?

    Thanks!

Avast free version. Blocks out everything, updates automatically and really has no downsides.

I believe Kaspersky has won the best anti virus program for the past two years .

I'm gonna join the Avast choir.

Personally I don't even use anti-virus any more. All it does is slow down the computer and a regular sweep with malwarebytes or avast is enough to keep the computer clean. The days of viruses capable of bricking your PC is long since over.

Yep Avast is good, no need to pay for anti-virus when the free versions out there are just as good.

Thank you all for your opinions. Anyone else?

    So, Kaspersky or Avast Free.

Buying an antivirus to "scan websites" isn't worth it?

Why is that? The computers nowadays are so powerful than a virus doesn't matter, or there is something else i'm missing here? I really thought that this could be a problem.

    Thanks again!

More efficiently programmed operative systems is the main cause. There's really only been one computer virus that -really- bricked your computer and with that I mean physically destroyed the motherboard.

There have been other viruses that break your OS but the situation is always salvageable. I had a virus once that made the computer reboot everytime it started and it was easily salvaged by just booting in safe mode and using the system reset tool.

Generally these days, you're safe as long as you're not a fucking idiot that say things like "Oh wow, I can download every movie in the world for free AND have a chance to win an iPad if I just do this 30 second survey that popped up from nowhere! What a deal!" Basically, as long as you're not my mother. Bitch had 1404 seperate malware programs on her computer within a span of 3 months of buying it and she even had anti-virus installed.

There's still stuff like adwares and stuff that's essentially harmless to your computer but really annoying. That's why it's still smart to sweep your PC like once a week with a good scanning program or use an anti-virus that doesn't eat up a lot of performance all the time because most anti-virus programs REALLY sap a lot of resources all the time.

Viruses are still a big problem, it's not so much that viruses are created to stop your computer from working, it's that these days viruses are made to utilise your computer for nefarious means without your knowledge. Also malware/viruses are created to glean information from your computer such as surfing habits, emails, key logging software, financial information.

Avast together with "don't download porn and torrent movies you should have paid for" is a good security policy on Windows.

Sorry but whether it is copyrighted material or not has nothing to do with one being more dangerous than the other in relation to viruses.

The rule to stick to is only download things from sources you trust

    Thanks all!

I used Avast before, i was just worried because some people say it consumes more resources than Avira, and i fear that it may interfere with games. But i will think about giving it a try again.

Antivirus programs are pretty useless in my opinion. Best way to protect yourself from an attack is to use common sense. As for detecting potential threats (bad files) even the stock Microsoft antivirus can deal with that. Problem comes when you want to protect yourself from outside attacks, and for that you must know what you are doing in terms of securing your connection (whether it is going through a router or not). If I were to know a persons specific IP address, there is no amount of antivirus software that can stop me from cloning their machines, a good router however, will complicate matters. As for destroying a machine, that is always a possibility, but it is not something that anyone would bother with as there is no real gain in doing it.
