    Hi all,

Just randomly wondering if anyone has any suggestions for an inexpensive (something like $400-500 if I can get it), durable laptop?

As much as I'd love one for gaming, I just don't have the time - so basically only need something for word processing and Netflix...

Anything would be helpful - thanks!

    Computers & Tablets, Laptops / Notebooks, All Laptops / Notebooks, $400 - $500, Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 Pro - Newegg.com

Just a search narrowing it down.

I was trying to find something with a good screen (because of Netflix). Also word processing and using for example Chrome takes a hit on your CPU so you need a nice one to handle multitasking. This laptop was the best I could find (on amazon). Compare anything you think is good to this one:

You can always go for a cheap laptop for light use (surfing, Netflix, email) for about $300 at Microcenter or Newegg. They'll be plastic, but since you're an adult that should not be a problem.

But if you want something durable, you have get metal. Probably about $600.00.

If you had a slightly higher budget I'd say a used MacBook Pro, mine has just been abused for the last 4 years, it's has water spilt on it twice, been dropped dozens of times, dented etc. but the screen is still rock solid and all works as it should.

a lenovo thinkpad would be a good option since there made for professional use also a macbook pro would be a good option but as for the durability mine got a bloated battery from just putting it on top of my xbox.

Oooo I'm getting one soon !

As for cheap but good laptops I am always told that Dell offers good priced laptops. Maybe have a look at their range?

Technically you should be able to find one of those Lenovo Thinkpads for that amount of money, but I can't tell you how durable they're supposed to be.

My advice to you is to try and get a second-hand macbook or just save more money and get a new one. They are an excellent piece of hardware.

May I suggest an SSD? Take a cheap laptop like m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16834317600 and then put in an SSD like m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=20-148-945. That way your laptop will be a lot snappier. Also don't forget Chrome eats RAM that it just isn't funny anymore. OK, that is an overstatement, but still, you want lots of ram for Chrome.
