I'm playing through Final Fantasy X and I'm going through the side quests/minigames to get all the crests and sigils for the party's celestial weapons. It's been awhile since I played this so I sort of forgot how rage inducing some of the the minigames and side quests could be.

Particular stuff like lightning dodger, catcher chocobo, and blitzball for me :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

So I'm curious, what side quests or minigames get your blood boiling?

I can handle all the sidequests for the ultimate weapons, just fine, except two. Catching the butterflies and the damn dodge lightning 200 times.

Blitzball, I destroy. Jecht Shot breaks the game.

Almost any escort quest. Nobody likes them and why developers insist on having them in every fucking game is beyond me.

I'm calling out The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for worst sidequest.
The one where you have to deliver the Dark Ore? That's a goddamn nightmare. Hauling those precious perishable goods across the dangerous countryside while the clock's ticking ... needing to defend yourself against that bastardly tank spider with your terrible aiming cannon when you need to be literally perfect. Screw up, and you need to do it all over again.

Worst minigame is Cow Racing from the original Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. I can think of no worse minigame than one where you literally sit down with the control of the game wrenched away from you for a solid five minutes as hardly-animated "cows" slowly drag their character models across 2 barren screens. You win like a nickel at best. I seriously don't know why this is in the game. I think it's just to troll players, it's just that bad.

I was absolutely no good at blitzball and really didn't deal with it.

But what really got to me in Final Fantasy X (though It wasn't so much a side quest I guess) was all the stuff you were supposed to do in the temples, moving stuff around. To be perfectly honest I followed a guide when I did that stuff and I still didn't see the point of it.

A lot of the mini-games in the Professor Layton games annoy me. Though to be honest it's partly that I'm not good at most of them, and the ones I am relatively good at are kind of stupid.

Fetchquests can get tedious quickly depending on their execution. Though alot of open world games rely heavily on them so it usually comes down to whether or not the game as a whole has enough substance to be entertaining while technically it's just sending you from point A to B then back to A again. Dead Island is an example of a game where there was alot of "Go here, get this item, hack these zombies, lather, rinse, repeat" and not much else so it wasn't very fun for me. Something like Infamous on the other hand kept me engaged in the gameplay or the story so I didn't mind it there.

Escort missions will always be annoying, oh and Water Levels, fuck water levels

If we're gonna talk fetch quests lets not forget the Stones of Barenziah in Skyrim that could quite possibly be the worst fetch quest ever simply because you have to find 24 of the damn things scattered all over the map in some of the most random spots with no markers or any indication of where to find them. Though the biggest kick in the pants is the fact that your only reward for completing the quest is a perk that decreases the rarity of finding precious gems in containers. for that reason it's the only quest I've yet to complete in Skyrim.

Oh god that fucking quest, I was actually gonna bring up Skyrim as an example of a game where I didn't mind fetch quests (they're you're main reason for playing the game and staying engaged in the action after all) but fuck the stones of Barezniah. The worst thing about that quest is I have horrible gaming OCD which forces me to complete it every time I replay the game. It isn't so bad when you have the power of the internet at your command, but it's still an awful pain in the ass with a Reward that's nowhere near worth the trouble like you said.

Games were you have to play Poker or some other gambling game in games like GTA or Red Dead Redemtion to get 100%. I hate Poker in real life and its even more boring in video games. Just pointless and feels like a chore.

Despite being my favorite pixel rpg aside from Pokémon the back and fourth 'pick up so-and-so' is was rediculous.

    That's not a fetch quest, that's a collectible.

You need to be my new BFF.

 You've played Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? I've never really met anyone else who has played it, that's so cool!

Somehow, I misread the title of this thread and thought it was "Favorite side quests" so I'm just going to slowly walk away...

    Slowly...

How nice to meet a fellow caravaner!:smilewave

Yeah, me and my roommates are big fans of the original game. We've played through it with all the stupid linkup cables and loved it so much we now run a D&D style RP session based on crystal chronicles.

Soulsilver is by far one of my favorite games ever, but I'm torn on many of the pokeathlon courses. Especially that dreaded Goal Roll...

Any side quest in Spirit Tracks. If I had to say how many times I tried to deliver the ice, or to catch every bunny, and every single time I had to go to a dungeon just to get a seal. Also the Kahku-Regah in The Wonderful 101, they were very annoying.
