I have Windows 8.1 at the moment. I got a notification that I could upgrade to Windows 10 in July. What do you guys think of Windows 10? Is it worth upgrading?

In general, for a new OS, it's best to wait.

You get a free upgrade from Windows 7. 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10 within a year of its release. I'd recommend waiting until near the end of that year and making a decision then.

You can always reverse the free upgrade though.

I'm not sure if that's true. I found several threads on tomshardware and superuser where people unanimously said you cannot roll back. I did find this article saying it's possible, but the commenters say that it only uninstalls the updates.

If you want to give Windows 10 a try without jumping with both feet, the best option is probably to set up a dual boot system, which is what I have now with Windows 7 and Windows 10. You can also try it in a virtual machine, but then there's a performance hit and other issues.

Given my own experience with Windows 10, I will definitely be upgrading from day one. It has the ease of use that Windows 8 had, the start menu (with a few improvement imo) and also has the performance enhancements of Windows 8.
Definitely worth upgrading to and also you get it for free!
    +1 from me.

I'm sticking with Windows 7 because it works. I don't see any reason to get a new OS if there is no new functionality that I would benefit from realistically.

I've got 7 pro on my PC but I don't use it as much so I won't be paying to upgrade. But in general every second windows version is an improvement.

The upgrade is free for Windows 7 / 8.x users.
Also, the comment about every second windows version is good, it's true. Because after the good version, Microsoft makes a big change that may or may not work, the version of windows afterwards stays with the big change but makes it better.

For example, XP is good, doesn't need a change.
Vista is bad, really buggy and bad performance, etc.
7 is good, fixes most of the bugs and has much better performance.

I wouldn't exactly call Windows 8 "bad" as it wasn't bad, just different. After a while, it really grows on you, the lack of a start button though was really annoying so I'm glad it came back in 8.1.

All in all though, if you use Windows 7 or 8 alot, you'll benefit from getting the upgrade, it's definitely worth it.

I got a notification as well.
I'm using Windows 8.1 and can't wait to upgrade to Win 10...

And it's awesome that Win 8 users get it for free! ( :

Windows 8/8.1 with Classic Shell Start menu works surprisingly well.

I have a touch screen laptop, so using the current os isn't complete hell for me, but it also certainly isn't exactly a can of joy. And although I've had nearly a year to get accustomed to all of 8's..... "quirks", I'm still definitely going to take advantage of the free upgrade. Classic Shell is great, but there's problems even it doesn't fix.

I don't trust it. There have been rumors and leaks indicating that W10 will eventually run as a subscription based platform, only having some apps, like photoshop, behind a subscription fee and not actually purchasable in the traditional way.

Obviously, it should be taken with a grain of salt, but the fact that they offer W10 for free, even to people with a pirated OS, makes me suspicious.

I'm gonna upgrade, I've read enough about it and a friend has been testing it and sounds really promising.

    Here's some info:
Windows 10 will be available from July 29

There are some links with more info on that site also.

I hope it has all kinds of critical vulnerabilities and people get hacked into.

Yeah it does seem kinda fishy that they are offering it for free. I have Windows 7 and got the thing for the upgrade. Im not exactly sure if I should trust it.

I will update it, besides I am already using a virtual machine some, and I can reverse it.

I went ahead & reserved mine. You're not required to install it right away, so I plan on waiting it out to see what kinda reviews it gets after its release before I install.

I heard differently. I read that they're not offering the free upgrade to anyone with a pirated OS.
