Allrighty, long story short, I've had a windows 7 laptop for about the past six years, and it always ran my games perfectly. (Steam and otherwise)
Over the years, it's battery eventually gave out, and won't hold charge anymore; that isn't too much of a problem on it's own but then there's a loose connection or something, that when the laptop screen is moved the screen goes out unless it's folded all the way back in an uncomfortable position, and now, as of this year, it crashes regularly when I try to play games or listen to music. Since it's quite literally falling apart from use in some areas, I figured it's time to replace it. Then, it got damaged in an incident and got even worse, but supposedly insurance will replace it due to the new fire damage, but I have to find a suitable replacement first.

I'd looked all over the internet, and apparently Best Buy's website still has listed 7's but when I went to the store, they said they haven't had any in stock for at least the last year.
Looking for one with decent processing power, and with a split mouse (Most win8 computers seem to have this clunky one-piece mouse pad with palm tracking that makes gaming impossible) I found an 8 gaming computer with not as clunky mouse, but I doubt it can handle all of my dated software, and it lack the 7 OS of course.

Long story short, Is there anywhere I can go to get a decent windows 7 laptop like what mine used to be? Thanks in advance~

Try Newegg, B&H photo video, or best buy. <3

Might be difficult to find a computer now with windows 7. You could buy a windows 8 laptop then downgrade to windows 7 but that could cause some issues. To be honest, it's why I tend to like desktop computers better. I have always just bought the windows 7 OS then installed it on the hard drive instead of buying it already installed or what-have-you.

Best bet may be sites such as amazon, i'd assume stores will have only windows 8 models. :icon_bigg

Edit: Also, you'd maybe have an easier time with an actual plugged in mouse. I find laptop mouse pads awful. haha. For processing power look for atleast a i5 or i7 intel CPU

Buying and installing an OS seems to be a good idea.
I don't really know how to do it but that would be worth a try, to at least gain information on it. Finding a disc might be hard too but if it works, then it's worth it

The rather damaged computer I use at the moment has an amazing mouse pad, that was seemingly perfectly engineered for gaming. It's close to the w a s d buttons, lacks palm tracking, and has large rounded buttons that are easy to press without looking. Though 6 years of daily usage has taken it's toll, it still manages to be the best I've seen as far as pads go. Heck, I used to draw with this thing.

Would be amazing to find an external version of what I have, so I can slap it on a new computer, haha~

Pretty much all the new mouse pads I've seen are impossible to play a game with though, they're one big flat square that confuses clicks with movement, and deactivates after pressing a key. It literally makes several games impossible.

Thank you for your time everyone<3

Costco and Sam's Club (and I assume other membership warehouse stores) have downgraded Win 8 computers sold with Win 7 pro. That's what I bought for my last two. The restore disk was Win 8, so I hope I won't need it.

I've never installed Windows 7, but I have never had any real trouble with older versions of Windows. Things can go wrong, I suppose, and there is a certain learning curve, but this isn't like writing your own OS from scratch, either.

Indeed, users installing an OS used to be a pretty standard. My first computer--a Macintosh--came with a blank hard drive, and a handful of floppy disks to install the OS.

One plus to installing a retail copy of Windows is that you can sidestep all the "crapware" that Windows machines often come with.

You can get retail copies of Windows 7 from Amazon, and probably other places. NOTE: you want a "retail" edition of some sort. You don't want a machine specific (e.g. Windows 7 disks intended ONLY for Dell).

Just search it into amazon, you will find it fairly easy. It's really easy to install as well. :icon_bigg

If you want a Computer, never buy a pre-build one. Search and buy the parts for yourself. You save a lot of money doing this. If you want, i can help you with it. Just send me an PM, I work as IT-Specialist and i have a few years experience with computers, hardware and software.

I eventually found a pretty good looking one for a decent price, now I just have to wait on shipping and make sure it works the way I need it to.

Thank you guys for your help! It's much appreciated and good to know I have more options than I thought I did! ^~^

    For what it's worth:

Installing Windows 7 is EASY. The whole process has a graphical installation.

When the machine turns on, your bios "splash screen" will say something like Press F12 to select boot device.

You select the windows 7 installation DVD or flash drive, or what ever the installation medium is.

The whole process has a GUI (graphical interface).

It's so simple someone with limited tech knowledge would be able to do it.

Microsoft made so,what big kernel improvements in Windows 8. Unless you have an application that is incompatible I would suggest getting a Windows 8 system and buy start 8.

If you want to upgrade, wait for W10. Trust me.

I do not recommend that at all. Alienware computers are terrible and extremely overpriced for the hardware that it has. I could build a much more powerful computer for that price. Secondly, Dell computers have garbage parts and hence is a garbage machine. Ironically, Alienware is a Dell brand.

Never, ever, ever buy a Dell.

    Also, two other comments.

First of all, I do not recommend buying a W8 laptop and trying to downgrade to W7. It does not like it at all.

And finally, if you want a computer of any kind that's good for gaming, you really shouldn't look at the processor, that's a rookie mistake. Sure, it's an important aspect but not even nearly as important as having a good GPU. I can't count how many times I've had a conversation with a person that went something like:
"why is this computer so bad at gaming, it has an i7 CPU for god's sake."
"Yeah, but it uses and integrated chipset as a GPU."

A computer is much, much more than just its CPU. Especially if you want to game on it. I understand you've already bought one and I really hope you won't regret the buy just because you got poor advice in this thread.

Well first, that is what I get for posting from phone during lunch.

If the OP needs a computer now. Get one with windows 8 and upgrade when 10 comes out. Like I said MS made a much of internal updates in Windows 8 that improved performance. You can install Start8 and get the start menu back if you care to.

When I had a Windows 8 machine I didn't bother with a start menu replacement. It took a little to get used to, but I didn't mind the new interface.

Windows 10 drops in a little under three weeks. Unless OP really can't stand to use their old system for a bit longer, this just seems more practical to me.

But hey, that's just what I would do in the situation :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: W8 drains my soul, even with Classic Shell, and I can't wait to update. But OP can use whichever path she deems worthy

Windows 10 will blow 7 out of the water believe me, I've been running the preview builds for over a year. Also if you are gaming please invest in a wireless mouse. Touchpads suck. It doesn't have to be a crazy one with all kinds of buttons and lights, I use Logitech's best standard wireless mouse, the M560, and I love it! http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Mouse-M560-Windows/dp/B00DR8LB4Q
