How much RAM do you have installed on your computer and how much do you typically use at most on a typical day? My father sometimes tells me about how decades ago, RAM was measured in kilobytes. If his program was over 64 KB (if I recall correctly), it wouldn't run to completion on the university's hardware. I use my computer with ADD-like tendencies, having millions of Chrome (64 bit version) windows open at a given time often while also running a few other programs. So I eat up a lot of RAM. Because of these tendencies, I'm currently using over 16 GB of RAM as I write this, and have upgraded my way to having 32 GB installed.
I'v maxed out my 8 GB of ram on several occasions by playing a fully expansion-ed Sims 3 and having half a dozen or more tabs open on chrome and Itunes playing. Not to mention my background programs. I know I need to upgrade my RAM at some point.
Yes, I remember those days when memory was in kilobytes. The 64K limit I remember were CPUs that could only address a maximum of 64K. As for today...I have about a gigabyte. Not a lot by today's standards, but I'm running Lubuntu at the moment, and a gigabyte seems adequate.
9 GB. A typical use case for me is to have two virtual machines open as part of my pen testing lab: one attacker machine, to which I allocate 4+ GB, and one victim machine I give 2GB. This is on top of what other programs are running. Physically, I have 16GB. ~ Adrienne
Not much. Maybe a half GB? This thing is ancient. Need to look into a new, used computer, soon, something around $200, give or take.
I have 8 GB of RAM in my laptop, which is the only computer I use at the moment. I run four virtual desktops 24/7, each with browsers and multiple tabs open, and I don't experience any noticeable sluggishness at all. I rarely look at my task manager, so I'm not sure how much memory I typically use. The multiple desktops and open browsers are for different subjects I'm studying at college. It helps keep things organized.
I have 8GB RAM. When I'm just chilling with Chrome and background processes I can get up to 40% usage. I think I hit the limit when I played Mass Effect back on Windows 8 That was incredibly odd. I don't even know why that happened.
I can remember the days where 32 or 64 KB was common. System I'm using to post this has is kinda old and has 192-MB .. can't remember it ever saying 'out of memory', but yeah there have been times I've maxed it out because things get really slow.
My kindle's 512 Mb just does not cut it. Minecraft lags like a bitch. Wait. Maybe that's just inadequate processing power.
I got 8GB RAM (7.1 which is usable and 0.9 which is system use) and I usually manage to use most of it in an average session.
I have 12GBs in my gaming rig, and I use about 6.5 gigabytes regularly. My worksttion contains 64GBs, though, and I use about 40GBs most of the time when running lots of programs
I came into computing at 16 mb ram 120 mhz processor. I don't even know how much ram my pc has. My phone has 3 gb and I am regularly at 2.6 gb used. Or like 88%
