    I'm not an expert, but...

What graphics card(s) do you have, and what graphics card drivers do you have installed?

Do you have a spare video card? Your card could be defective! The 970 is known to have some issues and Nvidia still haven't fixed the reference card.

Very doubtful but possible that you might have a defective ram stick, take them all out and boot the computer with one at a time. Seems farfetched but it did happen to me once

There could be hundreds of reasons though on why its happening!

    Faulty video card (likely)
    Faulty ram (possible)
    Faulty PSU (possible)
    Faulty mobo (possible)

You've got a lot of troubleshooting to do my friend!

Maybe also try to install older video drivers, maybe the current ones are defective I had a similar problem with gtx 560 so i had to go way back in drivers to get one that worked ^_^

    1. check if it's the drivers, install older version and see if problems persist.

    2. check if it's the graphics card, try using the integrated gpu in the processor.

    3. If that doesn't help try running some RAM tests overnight. But, most RAM problems appear as sudden crashes and one-time weird bugs, so I doubt it's the ram.

    4. if it's the psu doing some intensive workload (gaming + transcoding) will make everything crash and burn.

    5. your windows installation might be screwed up.

p.s. try googling for similar issues with your motherboard and graphics card combo.
