I just installed Skyrim off the disc. I can't get out of third person mode, and it's so laggy it hinders my gameplay. Can someone please help me (quickly) fix these? Looking things up on the internet was useless. xP

Note: I'm also new to Steam.

I tried pressing F and scrolling the mouse, and it did nothing (not sure if it will even let me during the Unbound tutorial quest). Hopefully this is what computer info you guys need. I'm posting all of it, even things that may not be relevant, so I can get this thing fixed soon. I just want to see my character and get past the tutorial without it crashing. The current control is set to F, but again, it doesn't work. I heard F3 might work.

I'm guessing your pre built HP doesn't have a dedicated video card and that's the problem, the integrated Intel HD in the i3 can't play Skyrim. Have you tried lowering graphical settings in game to lowest possible?

My recommendation would be to have a cheap graphic cards installed, you don't need anything too fancy.

Yeah, it's at the lowest settings. I'm going to test it out on my newer laptop when it's done installing on there. My dad and I are discussing just buying a new Windows 7 desktop for my main computer. This is off-topic but I tried installing 7 on my 8.1 laptop and it didn't work....we had to work on my computer all day to fix it. Windows 8 is definitely not my choice OS but maybe Skyrim will at least work on the newer computer for now. I was so excited when I got it, it was just a disappointment that it won't even function on my main pc.

Adding on: I've had this computer since 2011. XD

You can make Windows 8 look and run similar to Windows 7 by installing Classic Shell. I use classic shell on my windows 7, 8 and 10 pcs and its absolutely safe. If I were you I'd stick with 8 over 7 for several reasons.

It's safer, quicker and more stable. good luck

Or you could just update to Windows 10. In any case, your computer simply isn't powerful enough to run Skyrim. If you're new to PC gaming, I'd suggest you take a look at a game's minimum system requirements in the future and refrain from buying any games that your PC can't match.

Thanks for the help everyone but I finally got it to work on my laptop! High and medium quality graphics run smoothly and without much lag. Windows 7 is the version I prefer but 8.1 is ok, and it seems like the graphics card on that computer is very good. It turns out that players can change POV after the tutorial when their character's hands get cut loose; that was an easy fix.

I don't know why you prefer windows 7? It's outdated, runs slower and not to mention it won't be supported soon. You can always upgrade to 10 or just install Windows Shell to have your start menu back on 8.
