...Tomorrow, May 23rd at 7 pm EST/4 pm PST. Here is the latest short following Sweetie Soldier 76 to get you hyped up and show us why the world of Overwatch needs heroes.

A few reminders:
• You can watch the rest of the shorts released so far below, and check out the individual character bios at playoverwatch.com.

• There won't be ranked matches on launch. Ranked mode was tested in the closed-beta and it kinda sucked so they are now taking the time to fix it, which means it won't be ready come release, but will be added soon after—shocker, a beta that served it's actual purpose as opposed to merely being a publicity stunt.
• There won't be a singleplayer campaign. I don't have the exact links right now, but journos have asked about this a lot and Blizz says there won't be a campaign for this game, making allusions to the possibility of exploring the idea somewhere else in the Overwatch "universe."
• Here is a playlist for those in need to brush up the basics of Overwatch.
• Have fun! I sure as fuck will. And post about how much you are having! (or the opposite, dissenters are also welcomed).

To elaborate on the ranked play; Blizz noticed that you could easily climb the ranks not by getting better, but by just playing a lot and they weren't satisfied with that.

Erm. I missed the Overwatch beta but everyone is taking about it. I assume it's... good? I know it's a full price, online game with characters. Does anyone have any more information for me than that? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It's amazing!

Imagine a FPS, like CS, mixed with a MOBA, like Heroes of the Storm.

Add a good story and a beautiful, colorful world.

That's Overwatch :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Most Blizzard games also have a trial of sorts, so maybe you'll be able to check it out for free when it comes out.

And here is what I should have posted in the first place:

People have been calling it a "Hero-based shooter" in the sense that what makes Overwatch special is the cast of 21 characters you can plays as. They are all unique from one another, in the sense that each has very distinct skills that defines their style and sets them apart for the rest. Heroes are categorized depending on the role they excel at as Offense, Defense, Tank, and Support. To give you an example of how the characters are different from one another, Tracer is a squishy Offensive with a small lifebar, but she is very fast due to her time-control abbilities that let her skip ahead in time or backwards; Reaper, on the other hand, is a slow Offensive character but he has a teleport ability, and when he is at point-blank range he deals massive damage (at a distance his shotguns suck), making him ideal for dealing with tanks. You can switch heroes at any point during the match at the spawn point.

As far the matches go, Overwatch is fully objective-based. There is not Team Deathmatch here, and depending on the map the winning conditions will be Capture the point, Escort the Payload, Defend the point, and Hybrids (Capture the first point and escort the payload). It's a little hard to explain, but one of Overwatch's best aspects in my opinion is how simple and user-friendly it is. I fully believe everyone will be able to grasp the fundamentals of the game as soon as they play a few matches.

I think it's more accurate to say that Overwatch is a lot like Team fortress 2 but less shit and with fewer hats.

Holy shiiiiiiit, guuuuuuuys, the tech in this game, too stroooong D:

Btw, how you guys doing? I thought my stats would look roughly the same to how they did in the open beta but surprise surprise, looks like I've gotten an appetite for playing other heroes, most surprising of all Genji—whom I was not aware I was playing that much. My win rate is almost exactly 50%, which I'm ok with. I've gotten some sick PotGs (which I've had the good sense of recording), I get delicious revenge on every Bastion that crosses my path with Genji's godlike deflect, I'm still the best damned D.Va out there, and most recently I even got PotG as Zen (of all characters! For being aggro!). Overall, I'm having as much of a blast as I thought I would, and I have found more than enough like minded people to almost always be able to play with friends.

What about you? How you guys holding up?

Sidenote: I keep meaning to play Hanzo more, but I always have to switch at the last minute because my team's composition would be retarded if I don't ¬_¬

I'm generally doing well, but some nights the matchmaking just keep fucking me over. I basically always play with the same two friends and some nights we keep getting in teams composed of just idiots that I barely see the whole game. Like yesterday we didn't win even once all night and it was basically us three VS six every single game. I've no idea what happened.

As for heroes, I've taken a liking to Zarya lately, though I feel like her damage is very inconsistent. Sometimes when I have high energy from absorbing damage, I will shred even tanks in no time at all and sometimes I cause very little damage despite being high energy. It's really weird.

Oh my god, I have so many stories already about terrible teammates. Just today I was in a match on Nepal, you know, a control map, and my marvelous team decides to go double Tracer and Symmetra. Double fucking Tracer and Symmetra, in control. First off, double Tracer is never the answer to anything, ever. Secondly, Symmetra??? Really??? I pointed out that this was a bad idea and they got catty with me, unsurprisingly we lost, but joke's on them 'cuz I got PotG and I felt oh so vindicated when they saw how I singlehandedly made the one and only push we were able to pull off in that entire match. Yeah assholes, turns out I know what I'm talking about when I try to organize the team. Anyway...

I' trying to get into Zarya too as of yesterday lol, I've only played two games with her so far, and we lost so I'm not feeling too encouraged. I dunno if it was because I had a crappy team or a crappy Zarya. Probably both. In any case, what I've learned so far is that her particle grenade thingies are much more effective than her laz0r, at least until she gets over 50 charge; she has the least HP of all tanks and those particle bombs allow her to keep the damage up while also keeping her distance. Sadly that means I don't feel comfortable using her unless there is a second tank. Oh well, I got the Artic legendary skin so I guess I'll play her more if anything to see that awesome skin in action.

Also, holy shit I just did it. I did the thing. The Genji thing, I deflected Hanzo's ult right back at him lol. If that doesn't mean I've graduated from scrub Genji to great Genji I don't know what does.

Zarya is awesome! I really liked her, too.

I need to learn how to use Dragonblade. I'm not a bad Genji (i think), but i really suck at using his ultimate T.T

Everyone does. I keep saying he has one of the worst ultimates ever because A) it relies on him being within melee range which makes him incredibly vulnerable and B) First person melee has always sucked, still sucks and it will continue to suck for eternity. You basically have to just flail around and hope for the best, which is not a reliable strategy. My suggestion to Blizzard? Make it go third person when you pop ult, just like Reinhardt gets to go third person when he uses his shield because, you know, he kinda needs spatial awareness to use it effectively and guess what? Genji needs spatial awareness too. Seriously, it would be nice if being in front of an enemy didn't block all of my vision, please and thank you Blizz.

The beam does more DPS on all energy levels, but you get more damage out with the bombs if they're grouped up. The beam is definitely the best option on single targets, though.

Zarya has the least health out of the tanks, but half her health is shields, which means they regenerate by themselves at a rate of 25 HP per second if you take no damage for three seconds. So even if you're left with just 1HP, you can pretty quickly go back up to 201HP without any healer or healing ability.

She's definitely the most aggressive tank though and can dish out the most damage out of all the tanks and she's the only tank that can block the damage of any ultimate in the game for herself and one teammate if your timing is right. If a D.Va uses self-destruct near me, I just wait a second, pop barrier and keep doing my thing. Same with Rip-tire and McRee's Deadeye.

About Genji's ult, I've noticed that a lot of people seem to forget that you can still use the deflect and swift strike ability while Dragonblade is active. Make sure to remember that.

Swiftstrike is literally THE only thing capable of turning Genji's ult into something usable (assuming you don't get killed before he even finishes shouting in Japanese) since it resets every time you get a kill with it or immediately after using it. So technically, assuming everything goes well, you should be able to use swifstrike over and over and over again after every single kill with his ult, potentially turning you into an untouchable whirlwind of death. It rarely goes that way tho, which is made harder than it needs to be due to first person melee being overall awful.

I didn't know that was an option! I'll go whine there lol.

I've taken your collective advice and got the game - I'm still learning the basics, but it seems pretty fun so far!
