So for those of you who don't know, I am OBSESSED with mashups of songs. Finally, I decided to try and make some of my own. I read online that the best way to start DJ'ing is to learn to do it by ear-- that is, by mixing with vinyl. Now, as I have no access to a turntable of any kind, nor do I really want one (I'd really rather not invest that much in a hobby I'm only starting to delve into), I decided to take a peek online and see what I could find. After browsing plenty of different types of software, none of which catered to my needs, I found THIS little gem: Until AM-Virtual Turntables in Your Browser And oh my God, it's beautiful. Yes, it's simple. No, I can't actually save any of the mixes I create. But it's great for learning, and I'm getting pretty good at "playing it by ear". My mashups no longer sound like crap. If anyone else wants to try this website out, I'd love to hear opinions about it. (Especially if we've got any actual DJs up in here-- wouldn't that be EXCITING?! :icon_bigg) I've fallen in love with it, but maybe not everyone will. Thoughts?
Yeah, I know... but I also don't have space for real turntables in my room. So until I move out, or maybe clean the garage, this'll have to do.
Also, for some reason, I think of vinyl siding for a second every time I see the title of this thread.
Oh please... how could HardiPlank be the master race when LP SmartSide Trim & Siding offers the warmth and beauty of traditional wood with the durability of LP engineered wood?!
I love how we're getting so off track here, but since you're the threadstarter, and I'm the only other person to post here, it's fine.
Yeah, nobody else is posting here anyway, and this siding debate is much more interesting than my original topic
Awww, thanks I hope so too-- I mean, I can't exactly fulfill my dreams of being the next Tiësto without one. But for now, I suppose a virtual turntable is enough to get me started, at least.
True. I've noticed a lot of parallels between the vinyl vs. CD/MP3 debate and the analog synth vs. digital synth debate that us synth players have been having lately. There's been a trend recently of releasing new analog synths like the MiniMoog Model D Legacy, and the Korg Minilogue, and that's been getting people rather butthurt.
I didn't know you played synth! That's hella cool. Did you learn on an analog or a digital? Personally, I think playing analog is better if you want to stay true to the art-- but just like the vinyl vs. MP3 debate, you kinda gotta go with whichever's better for the music you're trying to produce, as well as what's readily on-hand, and digital just works better for some people.
Digital. I own a Yamaha MOX (from 2013) and a Yamaha SY77 (from 1990). I have experimented with one of those virtual analog (aka analog modeling) softsynths before.
