I recently started coding last month and it's fascinating. It's hard to find like minded LGBTQ individuals in my area to share my excitement with. :icon_bigg lol Hit me up. I would love to chat! Btw I am new on here.
Say if I want to start coding...which one would be best... c shark (cant find the symbol on my fricking keyboard) For making mini games that is, or a point and click adventure like pixel game ? What is the learning curve ? Closest I come is HTML a bit, and long time ago Aurora toolset scripting (Bioware stuff) but that is a long time ago. I know this is a tricky question, but I thought to ask you : ) Your Orlandoish opinion
Hopefully, I'm replying to you correctly, Haha! Sorry, but you are asking the wrong person. I am not too experienced. From what I do know you can make games using C! And I've heard that C is a bit tough. As far as the learning curve. Also, I am not sure but I am DUMB AS BRICKS and I understand it pretty well. I recommend using code academy, Udemy, or learn.co which is Flat Irons learning program. Those three have been helpful to me. :icon_bigg Good luck to you.
Thank you ! I like your style ! Your as dumb as bricks ? Nahhh!!!!! :icon_bigg I will check them out , and it is definitely helpful!
I've been a programmer for a couple of years now and I love it! So far I've learned Java, C++, C, SQL, HTML, and some Python. I think Java is really good for making games, there might be something better out there but Java is the only language I have experience with writing games. It's so cool that you're another LGBTQ person interested in programming!
The only thing I know is Html and game maker (which babies you anyway so ehh). The classes almost ruined coding for me but it's still entertaining.
I know some basics like GM 8.1 which used to be a hobby of mine (and can't for the life of me figure out how to move to my new computer) and I'd really like to learn C++ and Java later down the road so I can do some simple modding for my own entertainment. (Starbound looks like a good game to mess with for that, C++, I could draw my own sprites) I've always been told the way I do things is "inefficient but effective" as in I might not learn the proper way to do something, so I'll do a little workaround so what I want to happen happens, but it often asks a little more in terms of memory which I'd like to avoid on bigger projects. (An example, instead of a timer on entry of a room, the player touches a nonphysical "tripwire" which activates an invisible ball, which will move across the room and hit it's target in exactly ten seconds, activating a robot. This "Rube Goldberg machine coding" will use a bit more memory than the proper entry timers but will effectively give the same effect. The player enters the room, and in ten seconds a robot activates. Since these objects are invisible to the player and have no sound or collision it's hard to notice unless played on a weak or busy computer.)
I have years of web development experience, both frontend (html/css/javascript) as well as backend (mostly php/mysql). It's very easy too. I've never had the interest in any programming languages though, like C# as you mentioned. But hey, once you've mastered one it's pretty easy to learn the other similar languages too.
Not sure if this question will get answered, but what programming language(s) would be best for programming games, mainly simple text based ones?
With today's technology you don't even have to know a programming language to make a game. Unreal engine has a blueprint system which requires little to no coding knowledge. Look it up.
I've been programming for a while, but still I am not too good with it. I've been trying to make games using the Unity engine, but they all failed...I'm gonna start getting back into coding though, hopefully it goes well and at least I have an idea
I do backend web development with Node.js. It is so nice to meet others in the LGBT community who share my passion.
