I doubt the computer can manage 40 Gbps - that is 5 GB/s. That would be too fast even for RAM memory...

EDIT: This is my post number 1,453. I finally left the Middle Ages behind - Renaissance begins for me. I lost Constantinople though, oh well...

    hehe - I loved the "nerdgasm" comment.

Anyway - it makes my 512 look pretty poor...

I've heard similar stories, not that fast though. Anyone want to speculate on his equipment? I was under the impression that the best commercially available network lines were the OC 192s. Anyone wanna shed some light on this?

The article says that it is a specially constructed fibre optic line using special modulation techniques.

512 here too. However, as I said, 40Gbps is a waste because it's too fast even for RAM memory. In order to use the full bandwidth of the connection with a single computer, the computer would have to be a rather big mainframe.

512k is fine unless you want to download lots of big stuff. It's plenty for normal websites, email, instant messaging and other regular stuff.

We made sure we could get broadband here before we even paid the deposit on our new home. It is that important to us that if we couldn't get broadband we wouldn't buy the house. We checked by entering the phone number of the sale office (which is just down the road) on the inter company's website. We can get 1Mb, which I have ordered.

I wouldn't be able to make good use of a 40Gb connection - I rarely download anything big (other than the odd Linux distro ISO image).
