I'll be interested to know what it's like (and whether it looks or feels any different to the last few versions, which have all seemed very similar to me).

So far, I like it. I could set up the nice effects quite easily, and my wireless card seems to finally work. I have a minor problem with the splash screen but I haven't really tried to fix it. I have a solution though.

Wow, I didn't think that Linux would be so problematic.
Especially since it is know as the best operating system yet.

The problem with Linux is always the same - hardware compatibility. There are some devices for which there are no drivers (just because the ones who produce them focus on Windows), or the available drivers are poor when compared to the Windows equivalents.

As of now I haven't had any problems. Setup was quite easy and it was also easy to customize things so far. The only problem is that with the splash screen, and I'll fix it soon. I'm just being lazy...

    I doubt that you're lazy.
You just fixed up the whole operating system.
You can leave the splash screen for later.

Does it have a graphical interface for ndiswrapper or does that still have to be installed and configured from the terminal?

That was one thing I liked about PCLinuxOS when I tried the live CD - it found my wireless card, gave a message asking me to point it to the Windows driver, loaded it in ndisreapper and it all "just worked".

Well, I'm writing from Ubuntu again.

The splash screen is displayed properly - it seems that it is configured for 1280x1024 by default and that's why it doesn't show up. A quick change using the included Startup Manager fixed it.

The card was quickly installed through the graphical Restricted Drivers Manager. When I ran it for the first time, it showed two devices for which open-source drivers and/or firmware were not available:

    ATI graphics card
    Broadcom wireless LAN card

So, I just marked the checkboxes and then clicked OK. It asked me to reboot the computer, and when it started up again, both the graphics card and the wireless card were working.

Compiz setup was a breeze. I just had to install one package (xserver-xgl as the ATI driver still doesn't support AIGLX, that is soon going to change) and it was done.

I really enjoy reading about how you set up Ubuntu, but after a while I got lost in translation.

Your original problem was the Slash Screen, right?
You managed to fix it by changing the resolution since it is configured for 1280 x 1024.

Then, you had a problem with the Graphic and Wireless cards.
    What happened there?

I didn't have any problems with wireless and graphics. They were quickly installed through the Restricted Drivers Manager without any trouble, in less than 5 minutes.
