Recently I noticed that on forums and such, gif speeds (such as in avatars) are ridiculously fast. Interestingly, on sites like senorgif, they're normal speed. Anyone have an idea about what's going on? o_o;

The issue is probably not with which website the image is on (unless you have a seriously crappy computer), but the images themselves. Without knowing what browser you use, I can't really say much more.

well there are programs you can use to copy your images to and slow down the fps

I hope that helps im not too sure what your talking bout

Isn't it that animated GIFS speeds vary on the users speed not just the site itself?

The frame rate of an animated GIF is embedded in the GIF file frame-per-frame - each frame has a set value determining the amount of time it shows on screen. It is possible for the computer to be so slow that processing other parts of the site (the sites that are in love with JavaScript and AJAX) takes over the animation of the GIF. It would take a crappy computer and a crappier browser for that to happen.

If you're using firefox/chrome (it's fine in Internet Explorer), a lot of GIFs speed up for no reason. Hasn't quite been figured out yet.

Yeah, I use Chrome, and my computer is rather recent. Tim's example got it spot-on. I guess I'll have to wait for Google to sneak a patch in.
