Ok, well i've known this for a while and i've never really thought about this much in regards for other schools. But while I was in university, apparently we had access to free copies of Windows that we could get for FREE and permanently keep. Something about if you were in certain faculties like computing science and stuff. Plus its official from Microsoft. Just search up 'MSDN Academic Alliance' or 'MSDNAA' on Google.

You should try and find your school on 'MSDNAA School Search' link first to see if your school has registered or something.

What I ended up getting from this was like two copies of Windows 7 (32bit and 64bit) and a copy of Windows XP. (!)
