Default Star Wars: The Old Republic

Since so far it's only in the MMORPG topic, I figured it deserved its very own topic. So what are peoples thoughts about the game? Will you buy it? With pre-orders across countries having only limited releases and it getting more and more difficult to even find a copy at all, what are your thoughts? I was able to find one of the Limited Collector's Edition boxes on Amazon luckily but EB Games/Gamestop is completely sold out of them at least here in Canada, USA might still be lucky enough to have them, but as many places have already reported the HIGHEST amount of pre-orders ever received and that's within only 8 days of being able to pre-order, I'd say this thing is going big time. So what do you guys think?

I personally can't wait, but while I know it is an MMORPG, I've never played an MMO and with so few MMOs based on other successful series (Lord of the Rings, The Matrix Online, etc) doing well, I am slightly concerned about how BioWare will fair with the MMO universe. I mean the collector's edition I'm buying is $169 total and I mean yes it comes with the statue, and the galaxy map, the journal, and extra game content, STILL if I paid close to $170 for a game that turns out to be crap, I'm going to be very unhappy, especially since on top of that it's probably going to be a monthly fee sort of thing...I mean if it were a lifetime guarantee like some games (since I know it won't be free like Guild Wars for example) I'd maybe go with it, but the monthly thing is slightly frustrating.

Anyway what do you think guys?

One of the guys I play games with was trying to get me to get this. The cheaper verision is like $70.

But it's also got a subscription fee.

Though, commentary on it. Those graphics are AMAZING. They look so real. It's impressive. If it was a topic I cared more about I might consider it. Not a starawars geek though.

If youre big on mmorpgs or Star Wars it looks like it's a great purchase.

The graphics in battle thought look a little less realistic than the cinematics...but that's to be expected.

They're not real live people it's not going to be perfect. Still, I'm impressed what CG can do.

No I know, I'm just saying if you compare this:
+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

to the graphics in the gameplay:

It is slightly different but its still QUITE wonderful and I can't wait!

I think it's going to be a fantastic game, almost all my friends are planning on buying it. And I plan to as well, as soon as funding is secured. And as a huge Star Wars fan having read numerous books, I can not wait to immerse myself into the RP portions of the game. Twi'lek sith inquister all the way.

I hope it's good. I intend to pre-order it as soon as I get my next paycheck, as long as there are still copies to pre-order. The graphics look great, but will look sucky on my comp, as I can't even play WoW on any graphcs setting above the lowest one. (well, the one immediately above it only forces my fps to hit 15 instead of 30, but that's too much of a drop for me.) I enjoyed KotOR and its sequel (after patching...), so hopefully this MMORPG is good.

Dude PRE-ORDER now. I just did because I guess they restocked the Canadian EB Games (YAY!) and so I canceled my Amazon order and then did the EB pre-order. But yet, my bank account has yet to reflect the billing. Basically in most cases until the shipment is processed, your account won't get charged so do it NOW.

I'm still sad that LucasArts didn't allow Obsidian (or if another development team was taking over) to develop Knights of the Old Republic III, but from what I've seen from The Old Republic, it looks very good indeed. I won't be getting it though, on the basis that it's an MMO and I can't afford to pay to play a game on a subscription based fee.

I do know someone who is a massive Star Wars fan and is literally going to take a week off work just to play it when it's released.

I dunno. I loved KOTOR 2, but I felt BioWare did so much of a better job at KOTOR 1. I think like the only bonus about KOTOR 2 was being able to make your team into Jedi or Sith...the rest was I dunno, good but not as great as 1.

I want to pre-order SO BADLY but I literally have $4 to my name. If I had a spare 5 or 10 bucks, I'd have already hit the pre-order button. If I had a guarantee that it wouldn't charge my account until late August/early September, I'd be on it, but I won't risk getting $50 charges on my checking account. Maybe I'll just get a friend to let me borrow the pre-order money.

Edit: Also, as far as KotOR II not being as good as KotOR I, there's an excellent (read as "explanatory but stupid") reason for that. LucasArts decided they wanted KotOR II to be out for the holiday season, and Obsidian complied. To have the game ready, Obsidian cut tons of dialogue, quests, and a full planet from the game. They also didn't have very much time for QA testing, which is one of the reasons the game was so buggy. If LucasArts had been intelligent and not forced Obsidian to rush to a deadline, the game would have been much, much better. Instead, it was good, but bug filled, with the promise of so much more that could have been.

That's fair enough really, KotOR II has such a diverse reception anyway, which is part of the reason I grew to love it so much. I do love the first game though, a true classic.

Raeil's explanation is spot on, but some very nice people did bring back a lot of the cut content back onto the game. Trust me, download it and it really improves the game by a considerable amount, even though I liked it beforehand.

But screw LucasArts.

True. I will admit I was happy to play it in Christmas though Downloading the mods are fun too. I remember that someone also created Coruscant for the game. It was basically using the Nar Shaadaa and Dantooine Jedi Enclave sublevel to make it, but still was amusing & fun.

Mate, SWTOR looks like it is going to be an amazing game. I've been wanting to play it for over a year because I think the introduction of the story element is going to be a wicked cool thing. When they released the pre-orders a few days ago I was "F ya". Then, I had to read through the fine print--probably PC only and initial launch in the U.S. Neither of those two options are deal breakers (Bootcamp for my Mac, have a friend ship it from the US(to Australia)) but still... It is a bit annoying.

My hardest decision for this game right now (I've already committed to getting it) is deciding which class to play.

Devestated, I loved doing the beta testing for TOR and am so excited for it to come out! I would probably just move to North America of Europe just to be able to buy and play it. Thats just how much I love it, lol, and I have already decided on what class and specialisation that I want to have when I can finally get TOR!
