For me it's the song that plays when you fight Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes:

Oh my God, does that ever bring me back! Wind Waker remains my favorite Zelda game, and this music is absolutely wonderful.

I'm going to have to make a few choices here: one for favorite song regardless of its context in-game, and one for favorite song because of its context in-game. I'm going to exclude Rock Band/Guitar Hero and the like in making this choice, since I think that's just more fair.

My favorite song that was featured in a video game has to be Starsailor's "Way to Fall", which acts as the credits music to Metal Gear Solid 3. It's just a fantastic song.

However, to my knowledge, "Way to Fall" wasn't written specifically for MGS3; it just fit really well, so they used it. If we're only going to talk about original music for video games, my favorite song for its stand-alone value as a song is "Live and Learn" from Sonic Adventures 2. That game has a lot of great music from all sorts on genres, but this is my favorite.

But if we're going to judge favorites by the memories they bring back, then my favorite song from a game is "Debriefing" from the soundtrack to Metal Gear Solid 3. It plays over the final cutscene in the game, and MGS3's ending is by far my favorite out of all of the endings to all of the video games I've ever played played. The music really brings me back to the emotions that ending embodies; it still sends shivers down my spine... and my legs... my whole body, really.

I'm sure there are others, but this is the only one I can think of right now. It plays during the end credits, and it fits so perfectly.

I've never played it, but I know of and really like the music from Chrono Cross.

I love the feeling this evokes. Bomberman 64 music was pretty good.

Sonic the Hedgehog had some of the best music, too. Chemical Plant Zone comes to mind as well.

Diddy Kong Racing had music that sounds like joy. Like the other two, this song sounds a bit like elevator music, which I guess is what I like!

I actually have the Duke Nukem Music To Score By soundtrack & my fave song on that disc is the Neil Young cover of Cinammon Girl by Type O Negative! If we're talking actually game score music, I gotta go with Super Mario Bros 3, which is just classic!

Anyways, here's some really good shit:

This one has rather bad quality but it's the best I could find on youtube.

The Need for Speed II soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks to a video game ever made in my humble opinion. Shit's so diverse and well-made.

Stewart Copeland of the Police did the soundtrack for the early Spyro games. They're great.

One of the first games to actually have a legitimate soundtrack.

I could just keep posting so much shit but I'll stop here.

The orchestration in the Hyrule Field theme is absolutely brilliant, not to mention how catchy the melodies themsleves are. There tone is very nice, too. There's a sense of urgency created by the march beat that kind of foreshadows the climax from the very start.
