Well, I ofcourse need to write essays for school and stuff, but I don't really have any spare cash to blow on Microsoft office and I had Open Office for awhile, but i really hated it (it needed X11 on my mac and that kept pissing me off)

Are there any other decent subsitutes for microsoft office? something just as good as it, or better! For free ofcourse..

    Thanks!

NeoOffice is built on OpenOffice specifically for the Mac (it doesn't need X11). http://www.neooffice.org

For word processing there is also Abiword which is more basic than MS Word and OpenOffice Writer but is probably ample for most needs. There is a Mac version. http://www.abisource.com/

There's a list of office suites here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_office_suites

For NeoOffice it says "NeoOffice is a Mac-specific free/open-source software development project, to integrating OpenOffice.org with native features of Mac OS X such as Quartz and Aqua, and by so doing giving the suite a more "Mac-like" look and feel." That sounds like it overcomes the problems of OpenOffice on OS-X.

Thankies paul, im gonna try Neo-office, cause it sounds like it'll be better suited for my mac  Open office was incredibly laggy.

If I don't like Neo-office though, it looks like theres alot of options to choose from!
