Yay! (!) I finally have a reason to be pleased in the endless mire that is my life.

(I think the computer buffs among us will better understand my joy at this development.)

The shop where I always buy my computer parts finally got my new Intel C2Q Q6600 and Gigabyte GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB in on Friday.:eusa_clap

They replaced my old C2D E6400 and XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB and the increase in performance has been as would be expected, quite dramatic. I immediately overclocked the CPU from 2.4GHz to 2.69 GHz, which is the highest that I can without increasing the voltage to the chip (not very good for it).

I can actually play Crysis at an acceptable frame rate at the maximum settings my screen allows (26.5 fps).:eusa_danc

I have been a bit busy, so I haven't been able to test Gears of War or Bioshock yet, but I expect the improvement to be marked as well.

Also my 3DMark06 score went up from 9544 to 13238.

    *end bragging*:icon_wink

I want your rig. Mine is a ridiculously cheap laptop.

Yup. But if all you really want is a gaming computer, then go w/ Micro$oft.

That 533MHz RAM will probably impact the performance somewhat. Unless the motherboard can control the speed of each bank of RAM separately (most can't) the whole FSB will be running at 533MHz. I guess the next upgrade would be two more 1GB 800MHz sticks?

Mine is a not-so-cheap laptop (Dell Inspiron 640m) but then I don't play games so it does all I need.

I forgot to ask Neggie - what version of Windows and what anti-virus are you using?

Darn you.... I want your computer. My RAM is seriously lacking at the moment.

I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that my HDD is bigger than yours, but I still feel envious....

    It's damn good value though!

Another 512B of RAM would probably improve it significantly

You are correct sir! It does reduce the speed of the 800MHz sticks to 533, but the OCing ups that a bit, as I didn't unlink the CPU and RAM clocks.

My next upgrade will indeed be another 2 of the 800MHz sticks.

    OK, I'll do that

If you buy an iMac solely to play Bioshock, you're wasting your money. Hence the comment "if all you really want is a gaming computer, then go w/ Micro$oft."

There's too much Intel around here. Here's some AMD to spice things up

I've actually got some, but I've never done any mods so I asked my brother to put it in. He ended up virtually trying to hammer it in. I guess he's not much better than I.

You're right! It IS good it's not a mac! =D

A mac with those specs would probably cost about $10000000000000000000000000000000000000 with the Apple premium price added...why must they insist on adding another 30-50% to the price just because it has the Apple logo slapped on it?
