Hi there! I am in desperate need of a technology genius who knows something about video converting and/or editing. :help:

I'm involved in theatre, and we're making a video to promote our next show. I've taken all the videos, now I need to edit them together. Needs to be done before Wednesday, so it's quite urgent.

I have a video camera - a SONY "Handycam", DCR-SX22E, if that means anything to you. The videos are all in MPEG-2 format. I would normally use Windows Movie Maker to edit them together, but I just found out that WMM doesn't like MPEG. Dammit. I tried converting the one of the videos to .wmv, but it now has terrible quality and the sound is very, very delayed.

Any ideas? Is there another good editing programme I can use? Or a better converter? (I used "Any Video Converter", which is apparently quite good. Not so sure anymore.) Keep in mind that technology does not usually like me very much, and I only just got the video camera, so I'm still learning the ropes.

    Thanks! :icon_bigg

Editors I know that you need to pay for:

    Adobe Premiere Pro
    Adobe Premiere Elements
    Sony Vegas
    Avid Media Composer
    Avid Pinnacle
Avid Studio (Dunno if that one still exists)
Final Cut Pro (don't bother with that one. Mac only)

Editing programs I know are free

    Lightworks
    Magix

Trying to download Lightworks now. Apparently, it'll take just over 2 hours. Oh my word. Any idea if it will support an MPEG-2/HD format?

It probably will. The upside that you can know about is that many feature films have been edited using that software, so it pretty much supports anything.

the only downside I've seen with it is that it takes awhile to get used to the interface, unless its interface is different from last I saw (which was about 2-ish years ago, so it might have)

Fingers crossed! And let's hope it'll be worth the 2 hour wait. Haha! Thanks so much for your help!

No problem. As someont pursuing a career in Post production, it was only natural :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Too bad there isn't a mac version of this, yet..

Wow, Lightworks is flippen' complicated. I actually have no idea where to start. Looked up a User Guide, and I'm still completely lost. LOL!

Tried to figure out how Lightworks operates, and my brain exploded. So I just downloaded something called AVS Video Editor 6.2, which is a helluva lot simpler. I think I might still mess around on Lightworks at a later stage though, when I have more time. Seems fascinating.

Didn't the video tutorials on the actual website help you a bit?

If you need a better converter, try Handbrake. It's free.

I really did try to figure it out, watched a couple of videos, read the User Guide... and I just couldn't do it. See, I like to keep things simple. Technology hates me.
