My mom will be giving me a car in a few months. It's red. Is that visible in snowy weather?
This is a big deal up here, although not so much when I'll be getting it (February).

What other colors are easily seen?

I'm in Vermont and I have a white car, almost been hit a few times in the snow.
I would say a dark or yellow But you should by okay.

They say red cars cost more to insure,I don't know if that is true.

Well the most visible is likely whatever colour the snow removal vehicles are in your area, probably some yellow/orange-ish/schoolbus-ish , perhaps not so fashionable tho - red should be fine, anything but white or those very light beige/silvers that have been around last few years. If you're going to drive a lot at night, and it's a used vehicle, consider changing out the headlamps to some of the stronger ones, fairly easy task usually.

    Thanks!

I probably won't paint it, then. And yeah, I'm pretty sure the insurance is higher, but I'll deal with that when it becomes an issue.

I think red would be okay! I've heard of some people have more trouble finding their cars since lots of people in this area drive red or silver cars :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I wouldn't worry about it. The lights are the most noticeable thing on a vehicle. I drive with them on during the day anyway and I've never had any incidents or close calls and when I drive I drive a silver Corolla.

Alright, I won't worry about it, then. My dad will, but I won't.

Maybe I'm talking out my ass, who knows? Maybe you should worry, I don't know. I just know that if there is a blizzard and if it is absolutely neccessary to be on the road, the first things I see in poor visibility are head lights and tail lights even if it is a big yellow school bus.

Your biggest fear should be people who think they can drive safely at the posted speed limits in dangerous driving conditions. Most people realize the roads are slick and will slow down and leave extra room between bumpers. There will always be some who feel the need to push it or maybe they're in a hurry and they think that because they drive an SUV or winter tires it means they can drive in a wreckless manner.

I would probably say red out of all other colours. So you're all good. It's a warm colour, therefore it will contrast against the snow. Blue or white would be the complete opposite.

Red would be my first instinct. They do cost more to insure though

If you get a lot of rain don't get silver - no idea what the obsession with silver cars is here, but they tend to have quite a few dints and are the hardest to see in the rain! Seams pointless that DRLs are essential on silver cars in poor weather (and will be compulsory on all new models from next year IIRC).

Not sure what the big deal is - almost ANY color stands out against white, even at night... except of course more white. You really can't go wrong. If you're worried about being seen in a daylight snowstorm, just turn your headlights on.

Yep the best thing you can do for visibility in bad weather is to turn on your lights.

In fact I always drive if my lights on.

A dark color car would contrast against snow well.

Why the heck would a red car cost more to insure? Yeah, red stands out against snow, but if it's actually snowing you can only see the lights anyways, so it doesn't make much difference what colour it is.
"Up here" in Pennsylvania, haha. Well, I suppose I live "down South" in Canada.

It used to be the case that many hot-hatches were red and were involved in more accidents than anything else. Alas nowadays the only red vehicles you see on the road are buses from two of the local operators and Ferraris.

Red Honda Fits are one of the most common cars here. Not exactly the kind of car that people drive to look cool in.
