I was checking a video on my one playlist on Youtube and it said "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats" and gave me a link to an FAQ on HTML5.

I'm using Firefox (19.0 I think) and I found it weird that I get a notice about it here but on freakin' Internet Explorer, I don't when it comes to the same videos. I've tried add-ons but I never had any sort of luck with them. I checked the link and WebM has the green check and h.264 has the red exclamation mark.

If this is still in BETA testing, does anyone know if Youtube is going to try to make things more compatable? I saw a video from two years ago where someone pointed out that no versions of Firefox were covered, now I only see up to Firefox 4 under the html5 link. :bang: Should I just exit the trial or just wait to see if anything happens?

Edit: I just found out that I'm not in the trial mode for my one channel on IE.

Yeah, things like this are why we avoid Explorer like the plague.

Also, Firefox and Chrome are beasts when it comes to downloading and streaming stuff

Okay I actually did what the html5 page said and now I'm totally covered for Internet Explorer. But I'm still stuck on how to manage with Firefox. Funny how IE gets so much hate, but everything is looking okay. But with FireFox, they only have 4 listed.

If you do any web development you'll see why IE gets the hate it does. Granted, IE9 is more in line with its competitors, but IE8 and below is just terrible for standards support (but they still need to be supported by developers because 34% of all web use is via IE6/7/8!).

I expect the reason it is still in beta is because it isn't supported very well by browsers, so if it was rolled out now about 70% of users would have the same issues you're having. Most people aren't as technically savvy as you so they wouldn't know how to get it to work.

To be honest if you are having trouble it's probably best to opt out. Half the videos will force the Flash player anyway because they have ads on them.

I just got the exact same thing a bit earlier tonight when trying to watch a vid. Then that disappeared and was replaced with:

    I'm using FireFox

I saw videos dating from a year or more ago about it and only just found Google had a video talking about it from September 2012. I just opted out of the trial and I think everything is looking fine now. I'm just unsure if they're going to force everyone to go to HTML5 down the line.

It'll happen eventually but don't expect it for at least another 5 or 6 years.

Don't worry about opting out. I was also shoved into the trial today, and it only supports Firefox 4, even though Firefox is technically up to Firefox 19. As such, all youtube videos stopped working in Firefox for me, but worked in Chrome. xD

You can opt out there, and you can even opt right back in.

I've opted out for now. I'm sure Youtube will force me back on it eventually, but I hope they eventually make things compatable with Firefox down the line.

When (if) they do it, that'll be the day I stop using YouTube
I despize flash .. but hate that HTML5 crap even worse

If they make it incompatible with FF that'd be another reason I'd quit using YT
I do not like(or trust) internet explorer LOL

... I'd be tempted to delete both my accounts too
