I did find a new Bose Companion 2 Series III speakers at Best Buy today and they were black and had cloth grilles. Also the enclosure is made of wood instead of plastic like before. I did buy them for $89.95 since I priced matched with the older Companion 2 speakers from Bose.com website. Bose still hasn't posted this Series III model yet but ya they do sound good. I ended up returning the M-Audio AV-30 since it had that volume control problem and I saw the new Bose and since I do like Bose a lot I got them today. So I did get an upgrade from the older one I had for many years.
I just found out I was able to take the grilles off and I see that the cones looks like made of some kind of paper type and the surround is made of butyl rubber so it's better than foam.
