Pretty sure VLC Player, which is free, will play .swfs.

What's your computer? Old or new, Mac or Windows or whatever, etc... You could try to get this app called iSwiff, as well...

Try opening it with Internet Explorer by right-clicking the file. Does that work? If not, what version of IE are you using?

    2. Shockwave Player
    3. Chrome

VLC will play SWF files. I've done it many times.

What options does it give you when you right-click, choose Open With, and select Change Default?

If VLC media player is not working then I would download this program (Handbrake, it's free. I use it all the time at school.) and use it to convert the format of the video. Then it may be able to play.

Handbreak is great... I use it to compress video files sometimes, like when I'm copying them over to my tablet and don't need full HD videos.

Works good... Just don't interrupt it.

.swf is an interactive and programmatic media format closer to an executable than a video - VLC media player doesn't support it properly.
I believe VLC media player will support .swf files if they only contain .flv (flash video) content.

.swf files should run in your browser, because that's what they are designed for. If they won't and you've already updated flash and they still don't work, then I expect that the .swf file is broken.

But if you still want to try, you can download the standalone dedicated Flash player from Adobe on this page: Adobe Flash Player - Downloads
If you're on Windows, the link you want is the one labelled Download the Windows Flash Player 11.7 Projector (EXE, 9.72MB)
You don't have to install it, just run it and click File then Browse... and select your file.
