I have an Android S3 (4G) and I'm considering rooting it. I know it's like jailbreaking an iphone, buy what can I actually do after I root it? Is it worth voiding the warranty? What spp would be the best to do it or is there a different way?

Well, getting root access essentially gives you complete control over the phone. I did it just because then I could install an ad blocker and save power by not having the thing constantly query ad servers over 3G. You can also deactivate or even delete all the crapware telcos (and sometimes even manufacturers) add, among other things.

Note that rooting will not allow you to flash a custom version of Android (usually referred to as a "custom ROM".) That requires an unlocked bootloader which is a whole different beast.
