So...my laptop's charging port is messed up so my laptop won't charge anymore or something is making it not charge anymore. I don't think it's the battery. I think it's the charging port as weeks ago, I've had to rotate the charge just to charge my laptop. But that's won't work anymore :frowning2:

Anywho, I need to buy an enclosure because I have some stuff on my old hard drive that I NEED to get off. I have a Toshiba C650D but I do not know the hard drive size. So my question is if I buy a 3.5" enclosure will that work with my hard drive if it's 2.5" or will a 3.5" only work with a 3.5"?

since you have to open the computer up anyway, why not open it up and measure?

Most likely its a 2.5" drive since its a laptop (3.5" is mostly sued in desktops)

As for the 'bad' charging port... yeah that happens, its not too uncommon.
Its most likely a loose/bad solder joint between the port and board - a fairly easy fix, if:
*you feel comfortable taking the laptop apart
    *you know how to solder

The most useful gadget I ever bought for these types of situations is a usb to sata/ide adapter cable, plug one end into the hard drive (2.5, 3.5, ide or sata) and the other end into a usb port (and the supplied small power supply into the drive) and there you go. Quick and simple especially for one-of copy tasks and recoveries, and easy to store with other compu-type tools and accessories. Can find them on Amazon Newegg Tigerdirect Frys etc...

We're (my dad and I) are just gonna see if we can send it to Toshiba so they can fix it for free. We bought it with a certain credit card, and he says if you order something with a certain type of credit card, it'll double the warranty. Don't know how that works. Oh well *shrugs*

I would solder but my hand is much to shaky to solder it myself + our iron is soooo horrible xD

We bought it back in 2011.

GeekSquad suggested I buy an enclosure so I guess I'll just get that. I mean I want to make this process as simple as possible for me...my mom has a laptop I can port it to.

Side question: If you take out the hard drive, does it void the warranty?

Usually those type of warranties are done through the credit-card company itself. Your best bet is to call them and ask...

Yep .. computer would deff require a steady a hand! (& a good iron too)
