New to the forest

Hi -

I'm tscott, I am just coming out. Please fogive my awkwardness, but this is so very new to me. I've been told by a good friend that I'm a "bear". From what I've read I guess I meet those parameters, but I'm not much for pigeon holing people.

Right now there are less than 4 people in which I've confided...I don't count my shrink, because I pay him. I've a wife, 3 kids (19, 16, & 10), whom I love to death, but realise now how unintentially dishonest I've been with them and myself. I really thought this was something that I could control, a bad habit, like smoking. As it's the Christmas season, I don't want this to end up as one of those god-awful WASP-y dysfunctional moments. I don't want my coming out overshadowing what may be our last Christmas together as a family. Maybe not. Although I don't suspect this will come as a suprise to my wife, I've no idea as to how she'll react.

I have spent so much time being the dutiful son, devoted husband, and loving father; and have kept who I am a secret for so long that I have be suffocating on both a personal and spiritual level.

Before you think I'm one of those depressing asses, i am ehthusiastic about fur, kilts (first generation Scots on my father's side), hockey, baseball, terriers, birding, good books, old movies, musicals (like it had to be mentioned, right?), cooking and Kevin Smith.

I looking for advice from anyone who's been in this position, or is going through what I'm going through now and will be going through later.
