Well, hello out there.

So here I am. It's a little bit disconcerting for sure, but I suppose that at 42, it's about time. I come from a very conservative Latin family (read, ultra Catholic) and, as you can imagine, it's been difficult for me to even get to this point. I was raised by my grandmother and now take care of her. I suppose I've known I'm a lesbian for a long time but never wanted to admit it to myself; however, recent events sort of solidified it in my mind and in my heart. Yup. I've fallen in love with several women over the course of my lifetime, but I've always tried to rationlize it by saying stuff like, "OH, it's just hero-worship because she's your law professor," or "it's just this," or "it's just that." No. It isn't just this or that. It's because I am sexually attracted to women--albeit a very specific look, but to women.

Within the last month, I've come out to my closest friends. I've never dated and I think people who are close to me have always wondered why. I told them it's because I could never openly love the type of person that I want to love. It's as simple and as complicated as that. I expected horror and judgment, instead I got, "OMG THANK GOD YOU'RE GAY...NOW GO HAVE SEX!"

So this is me in a nutshell: a super smart, 42 year old attorney who's never dated, who's never been kissed. One who just admitted to herself that she is a lesbian. I told one of my friends that I feel as if I've swallowed a lightbulb. I'm more at peace than I've been in such a long time.
