I've been out for a while and I am quite confident. I have purple hair and love to change my nail polish often, it's just fun art and a great conversation starter. Problem is... sometimes it starts unwelcome conversations from people who are less than understanding or accepting. I do get tired of getting picked on and slandered but I'm not going to hide who I am or how I feel, I shouldn't have to, I don't and won't. I joined this site to chat with like minded people. I don't have a support system really, I'm not a member of any LGBT group and quite frankly it gets lonely and it's sometimes difficult to recover from an onslaught of verbal abuse like I encountered last night. I guess there have been times when I've offered support and times when I've needed it too and I thought this might be a good forum for that. Looking forward to chats.
Hello! I'm sorry you've been harassed. I think it's cool to see someone at your age going against the grain with purple hair. Besides this site, you might look into local groups because face-to-face conversations are really helpful in getting and maintaining support. I found this: Older Adults | Qmunity, Vancouver BC's Lesbian, Gay, Transgendered and Bisexual Adult & Youth Resource Centre
Hi there and welcome to Empty Closets! Glad you have decided to join EC. EC can be an important part of your support system. It's a great place to hang out, and to share experiences. You might be interested in checking out the 'LGBT Later in Life' forum in addition to the other forums. Feel free to create support threads and write about the things you would like to chat about or need support on. Welcome aboard!
