My name is Michael, and I'm pretty fucking weird a lot of the time. I hail from a small town in Massachusetts, about 20 minutes south of Worcester. I am 16, and gay. I like to play guitar. I like to drink casually, and smoke. Drugs disgust me. My father died when I was 3. I started to realize I was gay in the 4th grade, when I had a certain liking to one of the boys in my class. I came out to a few friends back in 8th grade, I was 13 at the time, and was dating a 17 year old at the time. It was interesting, to say the least. I'm manic depressive, so I'm kind of fragile in my mental stability, and my moods can vary. I am already on medication. I have been dealing with self-mutilation for 3 years now. I just recently got out of a relationship with someone I thought was perfect, and loved very much, and I am still shaken. Hi Michael! Welcome to EC from Jim in Toronto. I'm glad to hear that you're on meds to help you with your moods. Something else that might help is to reset your expecations about finding that 'perfect guy' that you can be with 'forever'. Forever is a very long time when you're only 16. I'd suggest that not many people find that perfect person at that stage of your life. Because the perfect person now won't be perfect for you at age 20. You'll be amazed at the difference in yourself between now and then. That doesn't mean that the alternative is random hook ups. At 16, or at any stage of your life, there is no need to 'hook up' at all. Ideally, sex should be with someone that you care for and want to spend time with. But there's a huge range of situations between 'one night stands' and 'forever'. Keep that in mind. Again - welcome!
