I'm new here, but I should explain a bit about myself. I'm a gay activist (and gay) but somehow my parents haven't figured it out. So far, I've volunteered for movie festivals and the Pride parade in NYC. My current project is getting a gay Jewish (like me!) group into NYC's Israel parade. I can't wait to meet you all and make some new friends (&&&)
Thanks! I know this probably should go elsewhere (but im new, forgive me >.<) but what's with the giant scary warning on every page? :help:
:welcome: To answer your question... for our protection? :eusa_shif ... lol There are some threads around here somewhere. I stumbled upon one once. :icon_bigg I only read part of it...
EC has hundreds of young and not-so-young teens, yet, unlike just about every other such community on the web, it is pretty much creeper-free. And that's in large part due to the fact that we don't allow any sharing of personal information in public areas of the site, because doing so would allow said creepers to contact members off-site. Additionally, all posts and communications on the site are monitored so any inappropriate communication is picked up pretty quickly. Additionally, members value and appreciate the safe space created here, so the community is largely self-policing; members report when another member violates the no-contact-info rule which helps keep it safe for everyone. Once you have been around a while and made a bunch of posts, you can apply for full membership and, if granted, that will allow you to PM with other members, use our chat areas, and so forth. In those private areas you have more freedom to share info such as contact info, Facebook profiles, etc. with members individually. So basically anyone that would come here for the wrong reasons generally finds that it isn't worth the hassle, and instead goes somewhere else. And that, in turn, creates a pretty unusual and probably unique environment. So we like to think our model provides a good hybrid of strong protections and ability to interact for members who have earned the community's trust.
Wow, thanks for saying hi, everyone. Can't wait to internet-meet you all And thanks Chip for the explanation.
