hello all! I am joining tonight because I am in the middle of my coming out. My parents know, and 3/7 of my siblings know. I feel that I have kind of stalled in this process though. I really want to come out to my younger sibling. There is a 13 year difference between them and I, and I was really their main caregiver for the last 18 years. We do get along quite well, but I just can't seem to find the right way to tell them. So, that's where I am at right now. -WhencanIbeme
Hello there, I can see your problem, though I had it the other way round. I still haven't come out to my mother, but to my two sisters. I only did it this year (shortly before turning 30). There is an age difference of 9 and 12 years, though, in this case, I am the youngest. I did not want to disappoint my caregivers, so to speak. I think if my sisters would confide sth. this important to me, I guess I would be relieved. Here is why: As the youngest, I always looked (and still do) up to my older sisters. I was always trying hard to follow in their footsteps. Being the oldest, they always got more attention from adults, meaning, they were always taken seriously, whereas as the youngest, you may get a lot of attention too, but for different reasons. Whenever my sisters did sth. wrong it did not seem to be as grave as my mistakes, as, of course, they were older and therefore seemed wiser or whatever. I guess what I am trying to say is, don't be afraid to tell your younger siblings, they most probably will look up to you anyway, and if there is something you are insecure about and tell them, it'll show them your human just like them! Don't know if this makes much sense, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Go older sibling!
