I just joined the other day and thought I would post here. I decided to create an account....well....I guess I joined so that I could communicate with other gay people but stay in the closet to my community until I feel that its right to come out. Arizona, huh? How's your local climate over there? How unsafe does it feel to come out? I'm just wondering because of all the politically... hmm... extreme stuff that's been going on down there. Anyway, welcome to Empty Closets. Many of us live in conservative states and don't know what to do, but even conservative towns have small enclaves of support where you wouldn't expect!
I live in the city actually so its not as bad. I'm just not so sure about the opinions of my parents and a few of my friends and instructors when it comes to homosexuality so I've chosen to stay closeted, that being the main reason anyway. A 2011 Poll done in Arizona by the Goldwater Institute actually indicated that 72% of those polled were in favor of legal recognition of same-sex couples and that only 45% of those polled opposed same-sex marriages. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_AZ_1130424.pdf The opinions of the legislature do not always reflect those of the people of the state. :icon_bigg Thanks for the support though, I know that there are a lot of places in Arizona that the people aren't as....accepting as those around here.
