I'm the mother of two wonderful children. One of whom (18 yr old college student) recently informed me that he is bisexual & currently dating a guy. He has only told two people so far, one being me & the other his sister. I have to admit it was a shock to me, but I love him no less. I know it had to be very difficult for him to tell me. I always will love him & be there for him no matter what - he knows that too. I am, however, still trying to wrap my head around "the news"... and it has given me a whole new set of worries.

Anyway, I came across your website/forum and upon checking it out a bit decided I might find some support and advice here. So, I will say Hello & I hope you will bear with me if I ask some dumb questions as I sort through my emotions.

You are a very awesome mother indeed, more parents should strive to be like you! It would make a world of difference for all of us if our parents would be supportive no matter what!

It's great that parents like you are trying to become educated and accept their kids for what they are. Congrats  and welcome!

Welcome to EC. I'm glad to hear about parent(s) can be accepting of their child's sexuality. You go, Mom! : )

Thank you, everyone, for making me feel welcome here

I've literally only known for a few days & I'm still processing things. I'm thankful that my son and I have a good relationship & that he feels comfortable & safe with me. I still have mixed emotions because I know that having people judge him based on his sexual identity will not be easy. I don't want to see either of my children hurt, ever!

I want to talk more in depth about this. Should I start a new thread somewhere else on this forum or on my wall? I hope my thoughts, observations, questions, feelings, etc., might be helpful in some way to others as well. I will appreciate your responses whole-heartedly.

I think that the best place for you to start a thread would be in support and advice.

That is exactly how my mother reacted when I told her. She was so supportive that it hurt. I've since gone back in, due to uncertainty, and all that, but way to go! Your son is so lucky to have a mother like you!
