I'm Gwen (an assumed name, of course). I'm 21 years old and from San Jose, California, though I moved away at 18. I'm currently a Job Corps student, though I leave in August to go to college. I'm a male to female transgender, and I plan to start the transition process at college. I've come out to my family and friends, but my family doesn't believe me. They don't have a problem with trans people, but they feel that if you are trans you crossdress from a young age and have the stereotypical interests of that gender. I do have stereotypically feminine interests such as fashion and cooking, but I'm also a massive military buff (so much so that I enlisted in the Navy, though I recieved a medical seperation early on) and very much into gaming (video games, pen and paper RPGs [my collection of books is for Dungeons and Dragons 3e/3.5 and Pathfinder, but I'll play other games if they look fun], and Magic: the Gathering). I also happen to have half a billion other interests, as I get interested in things easily. My wide interests and fascination with everything military made it hard for me to realize that I'm trans (I was 18 when I finally figured it out), and my parents don't take it seriously. I could point out how many women are into these things and how much of a geek my sister is, but it'll just start a fight that won't go well. My friends, having know me only since I came to Job Corps as an open transgender, do take it seriously, but it's not a topic that comes up often in conversation, because I'm waiting for college to transition. That's why I came here. I want somewhere to talk about LGBT issues.
