I've been a member since February 18th, but have never properly introduced myself to this forum. This website has helped me with being comfortable with my sexuality. As a result I was able to come out to my mom and a few close friends, all whom were very supportive. My next goal will be to announce it through Facebook, but haven't had the courage yet. It was sort of easy to tell her because she's always questioned me whether I liked girls from early on. The fact that she's not religious helps a lot too. It was a spur of the moment type of thing when I told her. Hope it works out for you when you do get to tell your parent.
