Hello everyone, my name is George. Over the last couple weeks I have for the first time in my life seriously questioned my orientation. I never before considered myself anything other than straight even though I have never dated a girl. Over the last decade I’ve made several male best friends which I developed strong feelings towards. This has been especially true recently with one of my newer friends. I started realizing that I was getting all the classic symptoms of having a huge crush on him. That was when I first considered I might be gay. I initially had a very strong emotional response to the prospect, particularly due to the apparent conflict with my Catholic upbringing. Some days I feel confident, while others I’m much more depressed. So a week ago I turned to the internet for answers. This was the first site I came to, and it has already helped me tremendously. Also over the last week I told my three best friends, one of which is my crush. All of them have been completely understanding, which is helping a lot as I come to terms with this. Finally, a little about myself – I was born and raised in Minnesota, and only a year ago moved out of my parents' house. They have always had a very close relationship with me, especially since I am their only child. So while it was hard to leave them, moving across the country has been an amazing experience and I am really beginning to learn who I am. Currently I am a physics graduate student in Florida at a large state university. My work involves the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. The team I am on is responsible for programming the particle detection software. The work is challenging but it is also very fulfilling working on this exciting project. In my spare time I hang out with friends and play a lot of video games. My dream job someday is to work on a physics engine for a video game company, as it would be a perfect merger of both of my passions.
